Active Club Pack

The British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity and Health has worked in partnership with 4Children (formerly Kids' Clubs Network) and the British Heart Foundation to produce the Active Club Pack (ACP). This valuable resource was designed for use in out of school settings to provide simple, straightforward advice and practical ideas to help practitioners increase physical activity provision within their club. It has since been used in a variety of settings, e.g. at schools by lunchtime supervisors for break times as well as childminders and after school clubs.

Training

Active Clubs provides the information to facilitate informal activity, play and structured, purposeful physical activity by offering staff and volunteers training which gives them the confidence and ideas they need to develop skills and share good practice.

The ACP is disseminated through a 'cascade model' of training. Regional Tutors are trained to deliver locally focused Active Club workshops to familiarise participants with the Pack and to demonstrate how it can be applied in their setting to help get more children and young people active.

Since the introduction of the programme in 2003, over 450 people have become trained Active Club Tutors and there are over 2,000 trained playworkers delivering Active Clubs to children and young people nationally.
